Susan B. Anthony Essay It is impossible to believe there was a time that women did not have an input on anything in this world. Women did not have a say in anything in the 1800ââ¬â¢s, they were just people that did whatever ââ¬Å"manâ⬠told them to do without any questions asked. There are a lot of powerful people in history that stood up for what they felt was important, like womenââ¬â¢s rights. Women by the name of Susan B. Anthony wanted to have change in this world for women that wanted to be a part of society. Born on February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts on a farm house, Anthony was one of eight children in a house with a father who was strict and was very much in the civil rights movement. At a young age she would go through something that most women today will never understand. She was taken of district school by her father when he found out that she could not get educated in mathematics because of the fact she was a ââ¬Å" girl ââ¬Å" ( was later sent to a boarding school in Philadelphia ). Since she did not go to public school her father decided to home school her and her sisters. Her father taught her and her sisters to be independent and self-discipline. Anthony was expected to help her mother with domestic chores. Anthonyââ¬â¢s dad owned his own cotton-mill where he had his wife and family help maintain the mill endless cooking, cleaning, and washing, Anthonyââ¬â¢s job was to bake 21 loaves of bread a day. As a teenager she was already being an activist, collecting anti -slavery ballots and having abolitionist meetings at her home. ââ¬Å"She learned early on that making the right choice was more important than making a popular choice ââ¬Å". (One womanââ¬â¢s voice) Anthonyââ¬â¢s father is the one person who influenced her to become the person who she was, with discipline and structure she became an independent women. She was a girl that had a goal and a plan to accomplish that goal with the help of her father motto of ââ¬Å"all work no play ââ¬Å". Trying to get your point across and having people agree with what youââ¬â¢re saying can be the most difficult things to do when there is no one in your corner. Anthony worked at a school where she was making one-fifth of what a man would make in a weekly pay so she protested for the inequality and she was let go of her job. This was an issue to her and made her want to take a stand. Anthony could not take anymore of being put down by society because of her gender, she never gave up what she thought was right she kept pushing and stayed motivated. Anthony encouraged a lot of women to become teachers to get away from doing household chores. She began to focus on the temperance movement speech, she felt that the banning alcohol was the only way for the ending of the abuse women and children suffered at the hands of husbands and fathers who drank a lot of alcohol. She was doing everything in her power to make womenââ¬â¢s voices be heard, she realized the only way she can let her vo ice be heard is to win the right to participate in the political process. She setup a series of state and national conventions for women suffrage and door-to-door campaign to collect signatures for a petition that will give women the right to vote and own their own property. For her to be women that are trying to change the way women are treated the press attacked her, but she and other women like her refuse to depend on a man. She found her opportunity around voting time when she was reading a newspaper that in the amendments it never said women could never vote, when she saw that she went in the barber shop and read the amendment to the men and they let her go in and vote with her sisters. She knew what she was doing was wrong, but she did not care about the consequences behind it. Anthony and all the women that voted that day were arrested for civil disobedience. With anything you do that is wrong there comes consequences and sometimes things happen to challenge you, to see how much you really want it. Anthony belief in womenââ¬â¢s rights had consequences that came with it. She did not care about what happen to her because she felt what she was doing for women was rights. Anthony has had some long term and short term consequences, a long term consequence has been that she had to go most of her life not being able to live it the way she wanted to live it because women were not allowed to dress the way they wanted to, work, vote, or own their own property. To live somewhere that you have no control of anything but your chores is aà horrible way to live. Anthonyââ¬â¢s short term consequence was when she was a kid and had to work like an adult, barley having a childhood ââ¬Å" all work no play ââ¬Å", even though it is a consequence not having a childhood she was very focused and matured at a young age. Another short term consequence wa s that Anthony went to jail for voting. She knew voting was wrong but she knew that if she did it would cause controversy and a lot of other women will follow in her footsteps and peruse being an independent women that does everything on their own with no help needed. Without women like Anthony we would have no change in this world, people like her who stand up for important issues like the one of womenââ¬â¢s rights will forever be looked at in history for making a difference for women everywhere. She has shown that with hard work and dedication anything is possible and that women can provide and live on their own just as well as men, Anthony will always be looked at in a positive light and thanked by all the hard working women across the world. ââ¬Å" Susan B. Assassination of John Fitzgerald Kemmedy :: John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Assassination of JFK On Friday, November 22nd 1963 at 12:30 P.M. the 35th president of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy assassinated while he rode in an open limousine though the streets of Dallas. This event, which abruptly and severely altered the course of history, has created more controversy than any other single event. Some haunting questions still remain. "Who did it?" "Why did they do it?" "How was it done?" "Was there a cover up" The official answers complied by the Warren Commission have never satisfied the majority of the world's population. In this following essay I will try to show who was responsible for the assassination of John F. Kennedy. I believe the only way to prove that there was a cover up, is to firstly prove that Lee Harvey Oswald is not the killer. The Warren Commission consisting of "various outstanding citizens" was created to "ascertain, evaluate and report upon the facts relating to the assassination ... and the subsequent violent death of the man charged with the assassination Lee Harvey Oswald. The purpose of the Commission was to examine the evidence developed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and any additional evidence that may hereafter come to light ... to make such further investigation, as the Commission finds desirable. In less than one week they found that a 'lone nut' killed JKF. At no time did the Warren Commission seem to consider the basic legal rights of Oswald - innocence until proven guilty, the right to legal representation, or the right to cross-examine witnesses and evidence against him. There is no way that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin. Firstly the paraffin test of Oswald's hands and his right cheek conducted on November 23, 1963, has been positive for his hands but negative for his cheek. Generally, this is evidence in Oswald's favor, but the Commission asserted that the test "is completely unreliable in determining either whether a person has recently fired a weapon or whether he has not." Nobody saw Oswald on the 6th floor window after 11:55 on November 22nd. 90 seconds after the assassination, Roy Truly and Police officer M. L. Baker saw Oswald on the second floor. Oswald had to take the stairs down. But he had just 90 seconds to hide the rifle in the opposite corner of the sixth floor, run downstairs 4 floors passing Victoria Adams who never saw him and reach the second floor where he was encountered to be "calm and collected". Merck Pharma Case Analysis
Jim Mesplie MBA 519 ââ¬â Competitive Strategy Case Analysis #4 FACTS Beginning as a small scale manufacturer of chemical in the United States, Merck Research Labs (MRL) became the top notch research institution in the pharmaceutical industry by World War II. By attracting the top talent in chemistry, biology, and pharmacology, MRL emerged as the leader in human pharmaceuticals with the release of highly necessary drugs to treat infections, and tuberculosis. MRL focused their strengths on three key areas: vitamins, antibiotics, and hormones.With the best scientists in their industries, MRL developed a reputation of being the best and their profitability put them at the top of their own industry. By the 1970ââ¬â¢s, pharmaceutical research had advanced dramatically and MRL expanded their leadership in the market by providing ââ¬Å"breakthrough drugs to the market. â⬠In doing so, MRL tripled their bottom line by the 1980ââ¬â¢s and were continually one of the most valuabl e companies on an annual basis. MRLââ¬â¢s profitability was hard to match by their competitors along with their innovations in the human therapeutic drug market while maintaining a science-based business model.MRL biggest core strengths was not only maximizing their top-talent to produce profits and cutting-edge drugs to be sold on the open market, but being very disciplined in their drug development process. Every one of MRLââ¬â¢s competitors put their newly designed drugs thru the same development process as they do, but the difference is post-marketing clinical studies (Phase V) makes sure their products are positioned correctly and they are utmost effective to whoever consumes their products for medical reasons. ISSUESIn 1984, the pharmaceutical business world was shook up with the passing of the Hatch-Waxman Act which tore down a barrier that MRL had created with their innovations for other competitors to enter the market. This new law enacted allowed generic drugs to be manufactured which made a big hit to market share for MRL and other competitors in the pharmaceutical industry. Collaboration could be used with smaller companies to replicate drug patents that recently expired which meant smaller R&D was needed to make generic drugs and the timeline for MRL to have exclusivity was depleted.Another hit was a few years later when pricing restrictions were put in place hurting MRL and the industry even further. With the regulations and the FDA allowing businesses to advertise to potential consumers directly thru the mail, television, or print ads in the local newspaper, MRL had to re-think their own strategy and begin what the new CEO Ray Gilmartin called a ââ¬Å"New Reality. â⬠In his view, what made MRL the powerhouse in the past is not going to carry the company forward with the new business battlefield for market share.The belief that the product quality and effectiveness would be enough to justify a premium price in the open market would no t be a long-term solution for MRL since doctors and patients could get something very similar for a much cheaper price by using generic drugs. The biggest struggle for MRL currently is whether they could adapt to the new changes while maintaining their core values as being a ââ¬Å"science-ledâ⬠or based company. Mr.Gilmartin felt the biggest obstacle for the company was bringing drugs to the new market while still using their larger research department while other competitors are focusing more on a larger sales force to bring their drugs to market. CONCLUSION/ANALYSIS MRL and Mr. Gilmartin still struggle with adapting to the new market and it is obvious that Mr. Gilmartin isnââ¬â¢t quite sold on what the organization has done to be effective with selling their drugs in the market.While not adapting to the drug industry changes, MRL is not leveraging external opportunities with other organizations like their competitors have along with not capitalizing on direct to consumer marketing with a minimal sales force. Now MRL should not forget what made them great by maintaining a top-tiered research staff, but it would be ideal for them start putting more money into other critical stages of the drug development process. As you can see in Exhibit 2, MRLââ¬â¢s puts 60% of their R&D expenditures in the target & clinical phases of the drug development process.Now this helped them become a market leader in product differentiation and quality but todayââ¬â¢s competitors are focusing more on phases III and IV to help drugs hit the market with a bigger impact. I feel MRL is on the path to change while adapting new strategies in response to the new market. However the bureaucracy that was created in doing so has inhibited this response to a minimal roar. All these extra teams that Mr. Gilmartin and MRL have created to figure out how to re-gain their market share have slowed down the progress that was intended. I suggest that Mr.Gilmartin keep with his somewhat flat leadership organization but invest more time in working with marketing department to create drugs that are needed in the market place. I feel utilizing the marketing departmentââ¬â¢s expertise and forecast of what the market will demand will help MRL develop drugs that can be sold in the market from the beginning will alleviate any wasted efforts for the company in those first few critical and expensive stages of drug development. In doing so, costs will be reduced and profits will be reflective of those efforts which would put them back down the same path that made MRL great in the first place.

Whenever introducing a new product to a current market, an organization will need to prepare for challenges they may face. For this reason, Kohler will need to be smart with our promotional and advertising objectives when introducing Hygieia to the commercial and residential markets. Our objectives will focus on building awareness, creating interest, providing information, stimulating demand, and reinforcing the brand.
